As we were hinting in a previous post, in God’s perfect providence, an opportunity to share our testimony of coming of the deception of the Word of Faith/Prosperity Gospel movement presented itself a few months ago.
Emily reached out to Doreen in early September (2019) and let Doreen know how much her ministry had been such a blessing and how it had helped us not feel alone in the journey of healing from deception. Doreen was heavily involved in Christian Science/New Thought New Age (all very similar ideologies as Word of Faith) and was a practicing medium. But Jesus saved her and pulled her out of the deception of those movements in 2017! Praise God!
Emily shared a little with Doreen of how Paul grew up in the Word of Faith/prosperity gospel movement for the first 25+ years of his life and how at one point, we both began working for Joyce Meyer. Coming out of Word of Faith theology in 2015 and eventually leaving Joyce Meyer Ministries after watching American Gospel in February 2019 has been one of the most challenging, painful, yet beautiful experiences in our 10 years of marriage. Doreen asked us to share our testimony on her YouTube channel. We prayed and set a date for the interview.
We personally know how damaging this theology can be because its twisting of scripture can be so subtle. THAT is what makes it dangerous. You could unknowingly think you are believing the gospel, but could very much be believing a false gospel. Therefore following a false Jesus. A Jesus who promises riches and victory and healing in this life, but never calls you to repentance and faith in God (not faith in faith) alone.
We hope you would take the time to watch the whole video. If you have any questions or comments, we would be more than happy to engage in civil dialogue. We do not want anyone to stay in deception, especially in this dangerous movement. This is all out of a heart of love, and we pray you would see that. Ultimately, we pray Joyce, along with all the other Word of Faith teachers, would repent and trust in the true gospel.
We also want to thank Chris Roseborough of Pirate Christian Media Justin Peters Ministries, Costi W. Hinn, Desiring God, Grace to You, and Ligonier Ministries (among many others) for helping us on this journey of building a strong foundation of truth in the Word of God and having the boldness to call out error. We are grateful beyond words for all that these ministries and men of God have done in our lives.

Soli Deo Gloria
Thank you for sharing your testimony in the interview with Doreen Virtue. It was further confirmation about the word of faith/prosperity gospel. I believe you both are sincere followers of Christ. I would like to share one potential error in something Paul mentioned in the beginning of the interview. When he said someone was foaming at the mouth and rolling on the floor (he inferred that this was a sign that something is wrong). While the enemy certainly can cause distractions and fear during healing and deliverance sessions, I however have testimony when the Lord used me to cast an evil spirit out of my 5 yr old son (he is now 22). Mark 9:17 does describe a boy who was foaming at the mouth and was dashed to the ground. My husband and I had fasted for 21 days because our son had been extremely violent and had been put out of 3 day care centers. I had to quit my job and keep him at home. On the 21st day of the fast, (I did something I had never done before and certainly did not anticipate as I had never seen it done before). Our son complained his stomach was hurting, so at first I thought he was just hungry and I fed him. Five minutes later he told me his stomach still hurt. I then heard the Holy Spirit say, “Now cast that evil spirit out of him”. With God’s guidance, I said , Come out of him you foul spirit of the devil.” (Remember I had never seen or heard of this except for Mark 9.) And since the scripture says this kind won’t come out without prayer and fasting, God reminded me it was the 21st day of our fast. Suddenly, our son fell to the floor (I hadn’t laid hands on him), was foaming at the mouth, eyes rolling to the back of his head, his lips turned pale and then he looked limp (as if he were dead…just like in Mark 9). And my thoughts were racing at this point because I was like Omg this is just like the scripture God showed my husband and me when he told us to start the fast (we had been praying for 3 years and no change). Long story short, I got a little scared when I saw him go limp (my husband wasn’t home). I drove him to the doctor….because not only was foam still coming out of his mouth, but this weird green mucus/slimy stuff was coming out of his mouth (the banana I had given him 5 minutes earlier was not coming up). The doctor ran some test and couldnt figure out what was going on. We took our son home, and from that day forward his behaviour and countenance had completely changed. He went from throwing chairs at day care teachers and throwing hammers at me – to being the most obedient and sweet child. We had an older son who had never given us any trouble, so we were so glad when God finally showd us this 3 year experience of bad behavior was caused by a demon. Then we were finally able to deal. Now he is 22 year old, saved, college graduate, and very respectful and loving child of the most high God. I have written a book called “God wants your relationship greater than your religion” and this story is included in the book. I mention this because I want to assure you I totally agree with your leaving the type of ministry that had their own set of religious doctrines. It is so very important for us to hear God and his interpretation of His word for ourselves. The Holy Spirit will teach us all things. Thank you for reading this far down…I know it was long, but I wanted to share it because God still wants believers to do deliverance and set the captives free in Jesus name. Yours in Christ, G. Renée
Hello..thank you for your encouragement and for sharing your story! I can definitely attest to experiencing deliverance from demonic strongholds, as Paul has prayed over me many times when experiences anxiety attacks that were obviously spiritual. I think where Paul was coming from in his interview is the fact that false teaching was accompanying these signs he witnessed. We do not believe that God would allow demonic deliverance in a place where false teaching is taking place to keep those bound to it because they were experiencing some type of “breakthrough.” I hope that makes sense. Costi Hinn (forthegospel.org) has a great article regarding healing in this vein of discussion. We 100% believe in the supernatural power of God in instances like you mentioned, but only when it is accompanying the pure gospel message. God bless! -Emily
Hello Paul and Emily,
hope you are doing fine. I am serving God here in Uganda, East Africa. I am a pastor (Now reformed) and also training other pastors. I watched your interview with Doreen and I liked your boldness and love God’s Word. I have tried to download the document you presented to Joyce Mayor but failed, can you send it on my email please? Joyce Mayor came to Uganda and she took a lot of money! Here in Uganda, many pastors are teaching us these men’s doctrines and even the I was serving with 5 years back fired me because I was against their teachings! I put my experience in a book which I called, THE CHURCH AMIDST THE CHAOS OF DECEPTION! I feel I need to share with you these things and I can send you the book (soft copy) if you don’t mind. I would be happy to hear from you.

Hi there Ssemanda! Can you send us an email? We will get the info to you. Our email address is [email protected]. We would love to hear more about your book! Thank you so much for the encouragement! We appreciate it so much!
I’ve been watching Joyce Meyer’s program for a long time. It seems to me that she teaches a lot of biblical things, despite a couple of erroneous flaws and beliefs here and there. So I would like to see what makes Joyce Meyer a false prophet or World of Faith or Prosperity preacher and teacher.
Did you watch the entire video? There was plenty of evidence..namely, she believes Jesus was born again. That’s a pretty big error in Christian doctrine. Did you read the manifesto? Plenty of reasons why she is a prosperity/Word of Faith preacher. Do some more digging. You’ll find what you are are asking.
Thankfully my entire family was taken from the Word of Faith movement. All of us are now reformed as well. Loved your video thank you.
Is there any way to get a copy of the paper Paul masterfully wrote to share with the people at Meyer’s Ministry? This would be so useful in helping so many see the truths you found and shared.
Thank you and btw, I loved Joyce and was so sad when I realized she was not preaching truth. How sad really. But God’s Word comes first and foremost.
Thank you for the encouragement! Praise God opened you and your family’s eyes! You can go to the link under resources to find Paul’s manifesto. God bless!
I’m sad to see you making such an effort to pull Joyce Meyer’s teaching apart. No one is perfect and I’m sure there are mistakes you will make along the way. Over the years, like many many others, JM has helped me enormously with her honesty and practical way of teaching.
We must all, especially as Christians, be careful of judging. James 5:9
We are called to judge rightly and this includes judging someone’s teaching against the Word of God. We pray your eyes are opened to the truth of this false gospel message that has been preached in America for decades. Teachers are held at a higher standard. We would not want to be in their shoes on judgement day. They must repent and start teaching the pure gospel.
I completely think so too!
There isn’t one ministry that is 100% accurate.
IMO, instead of bashing her shortcomings (Who cares if she thinks Jesus was saved – does that matter to receive salvation?)
Also state the GOOD she is doing.
Y’all are arguing and tearing down people’s faith, brand new baby Christian’s who are getting to know God and what Jesus did for them. For MANY Joyce Meyer has been a point of contact to Jesus, she’s restored hope, taught how to live, act & think. Also, The New Age CLOSELY resembles Christianity and the world has tainted what God has told us to use as our weapon, our voice, our minds, our envisioning/vision, as a man thinks in his heart so is he, speak life, etc. But no, it’s now New Age…. just like the world has tainted sex. Are we to refrain from sex too? The point is for people to study on their own and separate the wheat from the grass. I think y’all are completely wrong and are doing more damage than good. I say expose the misunderstanding, lie, whatever you want to call it but don’t allow your entire ministry to be based upon calling people out and their interpretation of the Bible.
I just want to thank you both for your interview with Doreen Virtue…It would be impossible to put into words how much this has helped me!! In this dark time of confusion and deception I really needed to hear the TRUE word of God. As a Christian of 45 years many of the faith teachers I learned from in the beginning have turned out to be prosperity/word of faith teachers and this has been very discouraging and disheartening. The Lord used your interview to make many issues clear to me. So, once again…Thank you and Bless you both in your ministry.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! We praise God that this has been such a blessing to so many folks! God bless!
I appreciate that you want to point out errors and I agree that some of what Joyce teaches is misguided. But most of what she does is encourage faith and doing good, forgiving and facing your faults. I don’t lump her in with the prosperity preachers. She truly loves Christ and does her best to serve him and teach people to do good. It seems like your whole blog is riding her fame, misrepresenting her message and not explaining anything about Jesus. Jesus, by the way, did not leave us orphaned. For actual teaching authority I would like to see you in honesty and humility read the catechism of the Catholic Church and you will find the real biblical message explained in truth, from the authority of Christ who set his church upon the rock of Peter, guided by the Holy Spirit. The church that decided which books to put into the Bible. That is before the ‘reformation’ when Protestants threw out parts of the Bible they profess to believe in, usurping Christ’s authority. Who throws away the authority God puts in place? Not Christ. Go to the uscbc website for free access to the catechism, the Bible and many other resources. I will pray for you as I pray for myself that we may fully serve God in joy and gratitude, on earth as we will in heaven! God gives us much in this life and the next and he expects much and prunes those he loves. Maybe Joyce needed to be pruned a little. We all do! I think I better go get the log out of my own eye now lol! Just keep learning. People who study the early church fathers very often end up leaving their fathers and mothers and coming home to the Catholic Church. It’s still here and no matter what the devil does to attack it, infiltrate it, betray it and crucify it, it will continue to carry the truth. Praise God! Peace <3
There are genuine believers in the Catholic Church, but much of what the Catholic Church teaches is not Biblical. You probably should do more digging on the need for the Reformation in the first place. Many Catholics believe their works are needed in salvation. Reformers and Protestants believe in justification through faith alone. If you believe that truth, we can call you sister. We urge you to do a little more investigating with Joyce as she is very much a prosperity preacher. There is plenty of evidence of this in her teachings and it doesn’t take long to find the heresy she has taught for 40 plus years regarding “New Thought/” “Power of Positive Thinking” Theology. Perhaps you could watch the film, “American Gospel.” You can find the first hour free on YouTube.
I want to start this by my sincere apologies that you must have been hurt in some way because usually that’s the reason people tear down other ministries. I am going to pray for your spirit and soul because Gods word teaches us that if we leave a church it is because of HIM leading us somewhere else, but we are not to use our tongues to tear down another ministry. If you were mature and had growth you would quietly leave and pray for someone IF you feel that you’re in the wrong. You are not right or correct in slamming a child of God publicly.
the Bible tells us to mark (expose them publicly) and avoid false teachers. Joyce Meyer is a false teacher and what we have done is very Biblical. We are to call out false teachers and warn others of their traps. None of it was “slamming.” We merely provided proof of her false teaching and shared our testimony of coming out of deception so that others may be helped.
Amen 🙏🏼 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Keep your Faith
Unfortunaly Joyce Meyer is speaking almost every day in christian broadcast in Finland: http://www.tv7.fi/netti-tv/
https://www.patmosplus.fi/radio (sometimes)
Justin Peters said that big part(major) of preaching in the world is this kind of prosperity gospel.
Then continously we see and hear here these Holy Coast drunken preachers as Rodney-Howard Brown ( He is very popular) He said that GOD wanted to start christian TV in Finland, that hapended over 15 years ago, prophecy from GOD; as Martti Ojares, managing director of TV7 told: It was clear from who(GOD) I got this message.
Christian TV is blessing but why it is more and more proclaiming something else that it is in the bible. We should live like GOD has told.
I was in David Herzog conference (TV7broadcast) then after that(some years) I realize that it was full of prosperity gospel and new age. He spoke often that we are not useful for GOD if we are poor.
Another think was that he spoke some kind vibrations ( may be same as in new age?)
I thank God he is faithful and I dont have to anymore belive this kind of nonesense.
GOD bless You
Ilkka from Finland
Yes, Ilkka, it is so tragic what is happening all over the world with the prosperity gospel. It grieves my spirit to know that it came from my country. God will continue to open up His children’s eyes, but those of us who have woken up need to be bold to speak the truth to warn others. Pray for boldness for you, sister!
Jesus rode a donkey – he was clearly poor on the physical plane but unbelievably rich in the ways that truly matter.
We can’t take all of the ‘stuff’ with us when our physical bodies die —
The TRUE riches in life are:
– Love
– Knowledge
– Our relationship with the Lord.
We want to have a good life while we are here, but it would do much of us good to focus more on the state of our soul v.s. the state of our bank account. 💗
Hi,
I just stumbled upon your interview and I must say it made my heart glad! I’m very pleased to hear about and see people go ‘back to the roots’, i.e. the Bible in its entirety!
I recently started going to church again after having been so totally disappointed in the Christianity of today, with the same desires as the world.
So, I now became a member of a small local church, which so far I think is doctrinally sound. There are a few things that I don’t agree with, but they aren’t doctrinal issues, thank Jesus.
Thank you for your manifesto. We have to constantly weigh what we hear against God’s Holy Word. All teachers are not sound, so we have to keep reading the Bible ourselves and let the Holy Spirit guide us in accordance with scripture. We mustn’t forget though; just because someone says something silly (or even wrong) doesn’t always mean they’re false, so we test what we hear, discard the bad and keep what is good as the Bible tells us.
Keep up the good work!
Your sister,
Yvonne,

Thank you, Yvonne, for your encouragement! God bless!
Hi Paul and Emily
I watched your interview with Doreen Virtue, I praise God for willing to stand by what you believe to be the Truth, and separated from Joyce Meyer.
I fully understand the challenges, the objections and possibly persecution.
I spent 4o years with the AOG church and left because they are preaching NAR and Word of Faith teaching.
I am now attending a Reformed Church.
I wrote a book on living a life by faith.
God called me into full-time missionary work when I was a marketing manager of two companies simultaneously. I was only 24 years old.
For the last 40, God led me to live a life of trusting him for provision of finance for both my family and ministry.
We depend solely on God to provide. No fundraising or publishIng our need.
As CEO of Gospel Recordings Singapore, I don’t draw salary, so are my staffIng
God has proven to be faithful in provision.
I like to present you an ebook to encourage you two. If you give me your email.
Blessings David
Hi David! Thank you so much for the encouragement! You can send us an email at [email protected].
Old life
It is sad that even we have Salvation in Jesus Christ, some people are talking to us as we are same persons as they have known.
Sometimes it is difficult to say that I can´t anymore live like before. Now I have cut off these bad realationships.
I saw that there are ´´angel books´´ still selling in Finland : https://www.adlibris.com/fi/kirja/parantavat-enkelit-kortit-9789525572988?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6PSj14jq5gIVx7UYCh0BaQLwEAAYASAAEgIhUvD_BwE
I pray that Jesus would help us and this stuff is disappearing.
